Herbarium

Dušan Šimánek focused on the phenomenon of natural imitations. Within the basic "analytical" schedule, he treats the subject of artificial flowers as an autonomous artistic problem of colour and grid. The way the images are executed shows signs of a sentimental preoccupation that seems to correspond to the ornamental role of floral decorations. As a result, however, the viewer is led to an uncertainty about the irreversible changes in the world around us. (Jiří Ptáček)

Bio

Dušan Šimánek comes from Příbram. After graduating in photography from FAMU (1973–1978), he worked closely as an artist with historian and curator Anna Fárová. Professionally, he worked in fashion and advertising photography. In 2006, Torst publishing house published his photographic monograph. In 2006–2011 he worked as co-curator of Langhans Gallery in Prague. Since 2011 he has been working in the archive of the Langhans Foundation Prague. He is a freelance artist, exhibiting in the Czech Republic and abroad, his works are represented in public and private collections.
