About the work
Bio
Marie Tomanová, originally from Mikulov, Czech Republic, lives and works in New York City. After receiving her MFA in painting from FaVU in Brno, she moved to the U.S. and turned to photography, exploring themes of identity, memory, and displacement. Her work has been exhibited internationally in cities such as New York, Prague, Tokyo, and Paris, as well as at the European Month of Photography in Berlin. In 2021, she was nominated for the prestigious Louis Roederer Discovery Award at the Rencontres d’Arles, and the exhibition later traveled to the Jimei x Arles festival in China. She has published three monographs and is currently showing at the Moravian Gallery in Brno. In 2025, HBO will release a feature-length documentary World Between Us about her artistic journey. Her fourth book, Kate For You, is being released in fall 2025 alongside a special limited edition produced in collaboration with Fotograf Zone.
